PASSION PULSE: DANCE COACH
About Makayla McIntosh
Makayla is a New York City-based ballroom instructor, dance and fitness trainer, and dancer that was born and raised in the small town of Newton Falls, Ohio. Her love of the movie Anastasia and musicals blossomed into a passion for musical theater and dance. She trained and competed in dance in Ohio, received a BFA in Musical Theater from Belmont University, and moved to NYC post-graduation to pursue training and a professional career in dance. She first encountered ballroom dance as a dancer for Disney Cruise Lines, which sparked a passion to dedicate herself to fusing ballroom dance with all styles in an empowering and fun environment.
Since graduating, she has enjoyed performing in the premiere Grand Ole Opry cast of How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical as Punky/Reno, regional equity houses around the country, and performing on Disney Cruise lines as the female swing!
Makayla toured with the National Tour of A Chorus Line, working with Baayork Lee, performing the roles of Vicki, Cassie, and Val.
In August of 2016, she was told that she would never dance again from a life changing accident and injuries. She was determined to dance again, and bodyART, the Melt Method, and pilates made that possible. At the end of 2017, she completed her 600-hour comprehensive pilates certification and level 1 bodyART certification in New York City. In 2019, she completed her Melt Method Hand and Foot Certification. As an instructor, she takes an injury-prevention first approach, and encourages students to listen to their bodies and take the necessary steps to take care of their instrument.
Since the accident, Makayla has made a full recovery and currently teaches and performs ballroom dance, teaches Melt Method and bodyART classes, choreographed Chicago for the Millennial Theater Company [Winning 2019 Best Choreographer of a Musical from BroadwayWorld.com], and was a performer, associate choreographer, and dance captain for Shrek the Musical at the Beck Center for the Arts. She is here to help you find joy and reach your dancing goals!
