Kaylan Bóvell Royston, alternatively known as BÓVELL, is a multifaceted artist and experienced educator dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering creativity. With a rich background spanning over 15 years in the performing arts industry, Kaylan brings a wealth of experience to their teaching. As a singer-songwriter, recording artist, composer, music producer, arranger, and performance artist, Kaylan has honed their craft in various creative domains. Her work as an actor in TV/film and theater, coupled with a strong dance background in ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop, adds depth to their artistic perspective.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor in Music at Berklee College of Music, Kaylan is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, skilled in vocals, keys, electric bass, and guitar. Their comprehensive training includes Musical Theater at the British Academy of Performing Arts and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Specializing in genres such as R&B, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock, Indie, and Musical Theater, Kaylan hosts a deep passion for varying styles of music, emphasizing the importance of not just technical performance, but storytelling through artistry. Through recent years, she has had the privilege of working with notable music artists such as Ledisi, Victor Wooten, and Nadia Washington.
Kaylan's teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a supportive learning environment, bringing artist sustainability and maintenance to the foreground of their teaching. As an experienced composer and arranger, she believes in affirming students' comfort with music through theory. ear training, and transcribing comprehension.
Throughout their time as a performer, Kaylan has worked at a plethora of venues including the renowned Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre (Marietta, GA) in shows such as the ABBA/Bee Gees Musical Revue, Jukebox Giants Motown & More, and A Christmas Tradition. As a musician, they’ve gigged throughout numerous venues on the East Coast including The Midway Café (Jamaica Plains, MA), The City Winery (Boston, MA), The 40 Watt Club (Athens, GA), and Mom Said It's Fine (Underground Atlanta, GA).
