Dance Audition Prep for Students
- Meet Your Coach -
Jessie Brownie, Elon University Graduate began teaching and choreographing full-length musicals at local theatres by the time she was 14 years old. A year later, she made her Off-Broadway debut dance captaining the original musical Kissless.
Jessie appeared in a variety of roles (Whatsername in American Idiot, Jennyanydots in Cats, and Lizzie in Baby, to name a few).
Jessie’s goal as an audition coach is to provide updated industry insights that will help students attack their auditions with confidence and ease. As a teacher, she hopes to do much of the same while maintaining a strong focus on technique. She believes strongly in balancing passion and play as you work to find the best “you” to bring to each audition.
Student Workshop for Dancers of All Experience Levels
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE:
In this four-hour-long dance audition intensive, you will receive the resources, training, and playground that you need to give your best at upcoming auditions. This course is designed with the sole purpose of providing you the precise information you need to prepare for the dance component of future musical theatre auditions. We have been there and done that, and while the audition process changes, what they are looking for, does not.
14-17 (High School)
Sunday, July 18
10AM – 2PM
WHO SHOULD ENROLL:
New Dancers/Beginners –
For anyone new to dancing, this is your chance to learn how to pick up on choreography and come up with a plan to put your best foot forward during audition season.
Seasoned Dancers –
This course will be an opportunity for our seasoned dancers to sharpen their audition skills – explicitly concentrating on bringing forward your assets to this component of the audition. Like your voice, dancing is a skill that has to be nourished and developed – we strongly encourage you to take on that mindset.
What to expect:
- Mock-Audition Combinations
- Jazz Class/Technique Evaluation
- Across the Floor Skill Work
- Pirouette Work (We will work on those single & double turns)
- How to bring your best performance!
- Individual Feedback and a plan for auditioning
- Audition Etiquette
- Health/Wellness/Injury Prevention
- Dance Audition Q&A
No matter how experienced you are as a dancer, the most critical skill is learning how to show a bit of yourself to the people behind the table. Without the connectivity and storytelling behind the audition, the steps become forgettable.
